Makes Me Wonder

It's a Saturday, and I am sitting in a faculty in-service at one of the universities that I teach at. I am somewhat at a loss at the topic: instructional technology. Not to toot my own horn, but I am a bit of an expert on the subject. I worked for and ran an instructional technology department at a university for a couple of years, as well as administering the online learning environment. I am also the computer instructor at this university, and am being forced to sit through an introduction to Microsoft Office products. I am SO BORED!!! The speaker has no more experience than I do in the subject matter, nor is he any better at delivering the material than I am. So why is he teaching this class and not me? *shrug* Whatever. I guess I should not whine. I have been overwhelmed at the elementary school I teach at by the requests for assistance with technology. I am co-coordinator of tech this year, and I am really hoping to be able to do an in-service just like this, but for primary teachers. I have really noticed how competitive it is among techie geeks. We all try to prove how much better we are at it then the next geek. We will go to great lengths to show how great we are. I have noticed that many geeks have no patience for newbies. They talk down to them like the character on SNL, "Nick somebody, your company's computer guy". I am trying not to act this way right now, but this guy has made several errors and admits he can't remember certain ways to do things right now. I just want this session to END so I can go Halloween shopping...AGAIN!
