Saturdays

I love Saturdays. I do not have to go anywhere or do anything. I can sit around and read or play video games or watch old movies. I actually have 5 days off and I really have no plans. After being busy all the time it is a bit disconcerting to have no schedule or responsibilities.

I noticed this week that the Congress, in its infinite wit and wisdom, felt that the issue of flag burning was the most important use of their time. What year is this? Is this such a serious problem that they have to try to pass a constitutional amendment about it? It is just a flag...it is not the actual piece of material that counts but the sentiments that it represents. If it had passed, would I have to stop wearing my Old Glory panties??? Do the Republicans not realize that we can see through this smokescreen of crap that they have been using? Along with a ban on gay marriage, this is just another in a long line of diversionary tactics they have used to deflect the attention of the American people from the crap they really are and are not doing....like ending a war started under false pretenses and holding a president accountable for his actions.

OCR

Well, this week I have to do a week-long training for the reading program we use in the LAUSD, called SRA's OCR 2002. I really do not like it, but I am forced to use it. Many people swear it is the greatest and just as many swear it is awful. But, the district is fully vested, so here I am at the training. Now I cannot complain too much, because the training is at the Los Angeles Marriott. Every morning, I pull up and the valet whisks my car away. I am treated to a lovely continental breakfast and a formal sit down lunch. The only rather dull point is the training itself. The district requires you to go to these things every year. Each year, you are supposed to take the next "level" of training. But, I must be honest: there has been no new information, really. It is the same material, in a new package. The highlight today, is that tonight, the BET awards are occurring at the Shrine Auditorium. So, I am assuming that many of the fancily dressed people with their bling and their limos, were famous in some way. I couldn't recognize any of them, but all that means is that I am totally out of the loop when it comes to BET Stars. Sadly, I have a feeling that this was the highlight of the week!
